What is the DFX Score?
The DFX Score is a unified metric ranging from 0 to 100 that provides a clear, high-level snapshot of a model’s design quality. Applicable across all CAD platforms supported by DFMPro on 64-bit Windows environments, this enhancement works seamlessly on both individual parts and complex assemblies. The DFX Score allows quick comparison across different design versions.
Imagine that a design engineer fixed some (not all) design issues and reruns DFMPro. Before DFX Score, one would have to sift through all the issues to check if the change introduced any new issue. Now the DFX Score is a quick indicator of the direction in which the design quality has moved. Subjective DFM/DFA/DFX decisions related to a design release can be quantified by communicating in terms of a DFX Score. “This design has no critical issues and the score is above 90 hence it is good to go” is an easier way to take such decisions.
The DFX Score combines both Validation Rules (pass/fail dimensional guidelines) and Reporting Rules (process parameters like radii and hole depths) into one composite score. The score is displayed through an animated gauge directly within the DFMPro Results panel upon completing an analysis.
For parts involving multiple manufacturing processes, the Contributions View illustrates how much each manufacturing category contributes toward your total score. And all of this is built upon an editable master Excel template, allowing teams to modify scoring logic directly with organizational standards.
