The University of Michigan (UMICH), a top-ranked public research institution in the United States renowned for its contributions to engineering and technology education, has formed a strategic partnership with HCL Software. This collaboration incorporates HCL DFMPro, an advanced CAD-integrated software, into the Mechanical Engineering curriculum. Through this initiative, students gain hands-on experience in identifying and addressing design issues early in the product development cycle. The partnership aims to enhance UMICH students’ design and engineering skills, bridging the gap between academia and industry, and equipping graduates with the latest industry practices and tools to boost their career readiness.

It was very easy to use and providing the rules along with the violations, as well as checks the part passed, made it very easy to see what worked and didn’t with a particular part. There were some times where it seemed to detect issues that weren’t there due to faulty measurements, but I understand that it is very difficult to automate that sort of analysis within a CAD software, and the explanations of the rules made it easy to spot these extraneous violations.

My project team, Solar Car, could benefit from using the software before we send parts out for production. It would save us time, money, and be an excellent learning opportunity for our engineers.
